Mother nature played havoc on many dirt late model racing events this weekend. On Thursday the Mars Racing Series announced that due to saturated grounds and rainy forecast that their season opening 10th Annual Thaw Brawl would be postponed. The officials from the Mars Racing Series moved the two-night event to Friday May 7th and Saturday May 8th. The Mars Racing Series will now kick off the 2021 season at Peoria Speedway on April 10th with a $5,000 to win event.
The highly anticipated $40,000 to win Rock Gault Memorial at Cherokee Speedway for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series was pushed off to another weekend as well due to persistent rain showers on Saturday. They got in night one that included heat race action and a $5,000 to win B-main that was won by Brandon Sheppard. Series officials are working with Cherokee Speedway on a make-up date. The World of Outlaws now shifts its focus to the Illini 100 this coming weekend at Farmer City Raceway. Kyle Strickler, series rookie, heads into the weekend with a 66 point lead of Illinois defending Illini 100 champion Brandon Sheppard.
