St. Louis, Mo.
Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Gateway Dirt Nationals have announced they will postpone the event. The decision comes under great consideration for the safety of competitors and fans alike.
Dome and Gateway Dirt Staff both worked tirelessly to hatch a plan that would offer a safe environment under our current pandemic conditions. Unfortunately, case counts in the St. Louis Metropolitan area have not shown any improvement. In fact, they have taken a “left turn”, if you will.
The state of Missouri is “open”, but the city itself has decided to impose restrictions on indoor events and large gatherings. Both options of which would drastically affect the financial outcome of the Gateway Dirt Nationals.
“We worked so hard to try and make this happen, it is something we all look forward to doing each and every year. We put together several different plans, reduced capacity/less fans, suite guests only, reduced competitors, heck we even looked at and developed a concept with no fans inside the building at all. Although some of those plans seemed possible at first glance, they ultimately were ruled out when we learned that those plans coming to fruition would rely on several different St Louis region COVID numbers to reach certain lower levels… unfortunately those levels have not got to where they need to be and are actually now starting to go further in the wrong direction” Sommer added.
